God’s Word calls us to pray. And if we are obedient to His will then prayer must be part of our everyday life in Him. We have been given an example of how to pray by Jesus Himself. The New Living Translation states it in a more modern language: Matthew 6: 9-13 “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”
If we could just align our daily prayer with the example Jesus has given to us and commit to praying like this each day, then things will change!
Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Ephesians 6:18 “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.”
Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 “NEVER STOP PRAYING!” (emphasis added)
1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them, intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and understand the truth.”
God created us for a relationship with Him! Prayer is the means in which we communicate with God. It’s not just our “wish list”! Prayer is what activates the blessings in our lives that God’s Word has promised to us. Prayer is how we are able to better understand, know and trust God. Prayer is how we are able to be prepared for the things that come our way in this life.
